PRRRRRRROOOJECTIONNNNNNSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 year projection

In 5 years i think that we will be alot further ahead with technology. We have already gotten really far with it right now and I think given a few more years the world will be run off of nothing but technology. People already rely on their computers and televisions and cell phones and iPads way to much and in five years i feel like it will only get worse with our dependancy on technology. I think the media will also mainly be about the technology and how far it has come in the past 5 years and talking about what type of new vehicles are coming out that dont run on gasoline.

15 year projection

I think that in 15 years the world will be over run by robots. I have already seen robots working in hospitals transporting things from room to room. It's a scary thing. I think the world will be more like those futuristic movies that we always see with hover crafts flying around everywhere and extremely tall buildings where companies conduct all their crazy experiments and make all kinds of crazy things to rule the world. I also think that alot of people will be trying to find a way to live on other planets and that will become a much bigger issue that it actually is now because i dont think right now that alot of people realize that one day humans are going to have to leave Earth before it completely dies as a planet. I think alot more people will be trying to travel out into space to see what is out there. and also .. CONAN OBRIEN FOR PRESIDENT ..

50 year projection

I dont even think that I can think that far ahead. By that time I will have dementia so I wont know what is going on and I will be locked up in my cabinet on another planet in some other galaxy.

ALL AT ONE POINT/ THE AQUATIC UNCLE

Im starting to notice a pattern in alot of the sci-fi short stories. Alot of them start off talking about "We" and they dont really explain who the "We"are. This short story was really confusing to me. I really had no idea what was going on. It was a little difficult to read for the reason that the peoples names were written like elements and that just threw me off big time. I dont know if i was just reading to fast but the story just didnt make any sense to me.

The second book was a little bit easier to read it was still confusing but the way it was worded it was easier to understand. It was mentioned that they slapped their paws and tails in the water.. sounding like  they are some sort of animal but they are really fish?

Bloodchild

I was lost with this story. i really had no idea what was going on aside from the fact that some guy had bugs in him and someone was pulling them out of him. I was unsure as so what the characters were supposed to be. This story reminded me of an episode of monsters inside of me when this kid went to a foreign land and came back to america and found out that he had bugs in him and when he pulled them out they were like these nasty slug things eating him slowly and growing inside of him getting bigger and bigger. so it was weird to me that they used this in a sci- fi book and then realizing "hey, this could really happen." its kind of a scary thing that sci- fi and real life are starting to mix together.
I was confused if these characters are some kind of bug or like aliens or something because they were talking about stinging each other and stuff like that to get rid of the pain. I also didnt get that the thing she was pulling out were supposed to be babies they just came off as slug like things to me.

Aye and Gomorrah 1967

I read this short story for the reading this week. I didn't totally understand what was going on in the story but i tried my best to grasp it. this was a very confusing story. from what i read i got that the spacers were people who had no gender. the spacers gave off kind of a stuck up attitude like they were better then the rest of the people and the frelks who im assuming were more like humans didnt seem to like them but also at the same time they found them attractive. I got from this that the spacers were in a way like prostitutes and the frelks had to pay them for any type of activity. Im still confused as to whether the spacers dont have genders or if they are like some cultures today and just are born one gender but practice as another.

What Makes something Sci-Fi

I think Sci-Fi is considered Sci-Fi because well its stuff that just doesnt seem possible. Aliens, Space battles, Ufo's all of those things just dont seem like they could ever in a million years be real to humans. I think the fact that most of it take place in space also is a huge factor in alot of sci-fi. There are some things that take place on earth too which makes it seem as though its possible like one day aliens could actually come down from space and attack and kill us all. I think those are the main components of Sci-Fi.

The Star 1956

When I was younger I remember asking my dad, who works at NASA, about what would happen if the sun exploded. and i remember him telling me that everything around us would be completely destroyed. This Story just reminded me of that day when he explained to me in great detail what would happen if the sun exploded. I rather enjoyed reading this short story. I think it had a strong story line. It was a little hard to follow at parts but eventually i was able to put together what was happening. When it began to talk about the other planet they found and all the preparations the inhabitants of that planet made before they were destroyed, it made me wonder if there was really something else out there and how cool it would be to actually find this deserted planet and see that they actually thought there were also other living things out side of their planet. I would love for this to really happen. It would be very fascinating.

ALSO .. Serenity is one of my favorite movies and i have seen every episode of firefly. I seriously think that is one of the best tv shows ever made next to any show with Conan Obrien.

The Losing of Mr Brooks

For this weeks reading I chose to read the Losing of Mr Brooks. It is a short story that I found online. The story is about a woman and her husband. It starts out with Mrs. Brooks in the hospital the doctors told her that her husband has been "lost". Then the story goes back to tell us why he has been "lost". It starts out on a saturday when mr and mrs brooks are outside gardening. Mr brooks goes to his garden shed to get something and then decides its very dirty. Him and mrs brooks decided that it will be cleaned later on that day. Mr. brooks isnt a clumsy man but as he is leaving the shed he falls and breaks his leg. He is taken to the hospital and the thats when the weirdness begins. As he is laying in his hospital bed he opens his eyes and sees someone/ something standing over him and he realizes it isnt human so he thinks he is hallucinating. Then the thing above him begins to talk and it introduces its self and Brein the Elf Guardian. Brein has a bunch of little dust pixies that are with him and they tell mr brooks that he has to promise not to clean them up or to tell anyone about what he has seen or else Brein will turn mr brooks into a spider. mr brooks doesnt agree to these terms and is turned into a spider. After mrs brooks goes home she starts cleaning for a sort of therapy and ends up seeing a spider and killing it. The spider turns out to be mr. brooks. I really enjoyed this short story i think it was put together very well. I feel like its hard to write a good short story because there isnt alot of time to tell a story .. in a short story but this one was very well put together and i would recommend it.

Anansi Boys

I am reading the Anansi boys. I am actually really enjoying this book so far. It started off a little to slow for me I would have preferred it jump into the story a little bit faster then it did. I liked how the book kind of throws in facts that you dont really care about like how towards the beginning more girlfriend calls him like 3 times to report to him that she is stuck in traffic or she is on her way or she is doing something that is really pointless to be worded the way it is but for some reason it seems to be a nice break in the chapters. I really liked the characters in this book also . Charlie had kind of a comedic side which was some times very discrete and sometimes blatant. Either way i enjoyed his sense of humor although i dont think alot of people could enjoy it as much. His brother is kind of a fun character. He seems to be kind of sneaky in a way though which makes him seem kind of a sketchy character almost as though he can not be trusted which you wouldnt think of a brother figure in a book. Also in the beginning when Charlie finds out his father is a God and that he has a brother and Mrs. Higgler begins to tell him the tales and the stories of the god that his brother and father are i normally woulnt enjoy reading those kind of things in the story cause i just want it to move on the the fun stuff and background stories dont interest me but this author made these background stories very interesting and i really enjoyed reading them. Also while i was reading this i kind of had a feeling the characters were african american but i wasnt sure because the way Mrs. Higgler was talking and some of the older women in the neighborhood kind of gave it away for me.

Prequel to Harry Potter

For this weeks reading for the spiritual education portion of the reading I chose to read the Prequel to Harry Potter. I started to read the Golden Compass but I just couldn't seem to get into it. I also tried to listen to the Black Magician audio book and i just got to distracted while I was listening and just got confused so I decided to go with the Prequel. I actually really enjoyed the Prequel. I love all the Harry Potter books so I of course knew I was going to enjoy reading this also. I loved it I'm kind of upset that she said she isn't going to finish writing this book because I would love to read it. I really liked how she introduced the characters also like when they are just like acting like nothing is wrong with running from the cops and then the cops ask their names and they think they are talking about something else and then the two characters say their names it was a nice build up to finding out who they were instead of just straight up saying their names at the beginning of the book. I just really want her to write this book because after just reading like 4 pages I am already interested. I can only imagine how awesome the whole book would be.

The Hobbit

It was very difficult for me to read The Hobbit. The entire time I just kept picturing the Lord of the Rings movies the entire time and filling in the parts that would remind me of the Lord of the Rings movies with what I would have seen in the movies. I enjoyed reading the book though. It wasn't as hard to read as I thought it would be. One of the things I liked the most about this book was how it described a lot of the characters and the settings in just the right amount of detail that it was possible for the reader to imagine what the setting looked like or what the character looked like with the way the author wanted them/ it to be seen and also still leaving enough up to the imagination that you could customize your own setting or character.
The book moved surprisingly fast at the beginning to get into the adventure part of the book. I was expecting it to drag out for quite a while like it did in the Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed all the mythical creatures like the Elves who in this book they kind of made me feel like they were scary by saying how they were entering the darkness  but yet still wonderful while in the movies they portrayed them as perfection and in very light. I liked how the book described Gollum by saying " I dont know where he came from, now who or what he was. He was Gollum...." and also how it said he was a small slimy creature. He is described as a very sneaky individual in the book which is perfect because that is how I see him when I read the books or watch the movies.
I enjoyed reading this book it was full of adventure. I didn't find it to be boring at all even though there were parts that were a little slow I still enjoyed it.

A Wild Sheep Chase

I read A Wild Sheep Chase. I didn't get a chance to finish the whole book just yet but I will finish it. I think mainly what I liked about this book was how descriptive it was. How the author described every character in pretty good detail. When he would describe the girlfriends he would mention things about them that alot of other authors wouldn't describe people in books. Like the First girl she chain smoked and everyone knew she would sleep with anyone. That is how she was known and described. Then the wife he had when he was alone in his place he wished he had something of hers to drape over the seat and he mentioned her leaving her slip but she didnt leave it. Then the girlfriend after that he described her ears and how he liked her ears and how she would never show her ears. It was just so strange the things the author chose to pick out and describe the details of. I think thats why I liked the book so much because its not like very many other books I have read. I enjoyed the detail of how the author did not mention any names. I got confused from girlfriend to girlfriend when the author would call her "she" because i kept just going back to the first girl even though i knew she was dead. Either way I enjoyed the amount that I have read so far.

Monster Island

I really enjoyed reading Monster Island. I think it was probably one of the better books I have read recently. I liked how the book was written alot switching from person to person. How it went from Dekalb and then moving onto Gary the zombie man with a brain and giving us both views from the human side and the zombie side. I liked how the book explained how Gary was the way he was and how he pretty much preserved his brain so that he would become a zombie but still be able to think and function like a human. I continued to read onto the next part of the books. It started to get really descriptive. When they were talking about how after Gary got shot in the head and then it continued to describe how he stuck his fingers into his head and felt the bullet and then went back in and pulled the bullet out of his head. It was really gross and really descriptive but still kind of cool that it was described. Into the second part more it starts to get really awesome after Gary sucks the "life" out of the zombies and he goes out into the city and becomes a sort of a Zombie leader. Then when he runs into two humans that whole scene was pretty awesome when he lets that one go and then he is attacked by a pack of zombies. After the first human is killed Gary like just EATS the other human and the whole thing is just really crazy. I really like this book i can't wait to finish it.

Why are Zombie Movies so popular?

I think that zombie movies are so popular because I feel like giving the illusion that it is possible to come back to "life" is something that people really enjoy watching. The fact that you pretty much can't kill a zombie unless you go for the head is kind of a scary thing too. I think people really like the suspense that comes along with zombie films and the chase that happens in every zombie movie where the humans get locked in a building of some sort and the zombies always somehow find their way in. Zombie movies are also very gory I think thats another reason why people like them. I think people like the fact that they can hurt something and it's okay. Also I think it has a lot to do with getting eaten by the undead or getting bitten by a zombie and turning into one is something that attracts an audience.

Frankenstein

I read Frankenstein and also saw the movie when I was in high school. I was never really a big fan of either. When I read it again this time I didn't find it to be as boring as it was a long time ago but I still couldn't get into it as much as I would have liked. I think one of the main reasons I wasn't very into the book was because it took way to long to get to the monsters story. I began to lose interest after a while and I kind of just wanted to get to the section about the monster. I realize now that it was necessary to build up to the monsters story to get all of the background information on Victor and how he got to the point he did in the story. I didn't know that Frankenstein wasn't the name of the monster but Victors last name so I'm happy I now know that. After I finished reading the book I also watched the movie again to see how much of a difference there was between the movie and the book. I noticed a few things that were obvious about it like how his mother died in the movie from giving birth but in the book she died of something else. I did like the movie a bit better in the fact that it spent alot more time on the monster then it did on Victors story. I enjoyed learning about Mary Shelly's background which definitely had an impact on her writting.
