Prequel to Harry Potter

For this weeks reading for the spiritual education portion of the reading I chose to read the Prequel to Harry Potter. I started to read the Golden Compass but I just couldn't seem to get into it. I also tried to listen to the Black Magician audio book and i just got to distracted while I was listening and just got confused so I decided to go with the Prequel. I actually really enjoyed the Prequel. I love all the Harry Potter books so I of course knew I was going to enjoy reading this also. I loved it I'm kind of upset that she said she isn't going to finish writing this book because I would love to read it. I really liked how she introduced the characters also like when they are just like acting like nothing is wrong with running from the cops and then the cops ask their names and they think they are talking about something else and then the two characters say their names it was a nice build up to finding out who they were instead of just straight up saying their names at the beginning of the book. I just really want her to write this book because after just reading like 4 pages I am already interested. I can only imagine how awesome the whole book would be.

The Hobbit

It was very difficult for me to read The Hobbit. The entire time I just kept picturing the Lord of the Rings movies the entire time and filling in the parts that would remind me of the Lord of the Rings movies with what I would have seen in the movies. I enjoyed reading the book though. It wasn't as hard to read as I thought it would be. One of the things I liked the most about this book was how it described a lot of the characters and the settings in just the right amount of detail that it was possible for the reader to imagine what the setting looked like or what the character looked like with the way the author wanted them/ it to be seen and also still leaving enough up to the imagination that you could customize your own setting or character.
The book moved surprisingly fast at the beginning to get into the adventure part of the book. I was expecting it to drag out for quite a while like it did in the Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed all the mythical creatures like the Elves who in this book they kind of made me feel like they were scary by saying how they were entering the darkness  but yet still wonderful while in the movies they portrayed them as perfection and in very light. I liked how the book described Gollum by saying " I dont know where he came from, now who or what he was. He was Gollum...." and also how it said he was a small slimy creature. He is described as a very sneaky individual in the book which is perfect because that is how I see him when I read the books or watch the movies.
I enjoyed reading this book it was full of adventure. I didn't find it to be boring at all even though there were parts that were a little slow I still enjoyed it.

A Wild Sheep Chase

I read A Wild Sheep Chase. I didn't get a chance to finish the whole book just yet but I will finish it. I think mainly what I liked about this book was how descriptive it was. How the author described every character in pretty good detail. When he would describe the girlfriends he would mention things about them that alot of other authors wouldn't describe people in books. Like the First girl she chain smoked and everyone knew she would sleep with anyone. That is how she was known and described. Then the wife he had when he was alone in his place he wished he had something of hers to drape over the seat and he mentioned her leaving her slip but she didnt leave it. Then the girlfriend after that he described her ears and how he liked her ears and how she would never show her ears. It was just so strange the things the author chose to pick out and describe the details of. I think thats why I liked the book so much because its not like very many other books I have read. I enjoyed the detail of how the author did not mention any names. I got confused from girlfriend to girlfriend when the author would call her "she" because i kept just going back to the first girl even though i knew she was dead. Either way I enjoyed the amount that I have read so far.

Monster Island

I really enjoyed reading Monster Island. I think it was probably one of the better books I have read recently. I liked how the book was written alot switching from person to person. How it went from Dekalb and then moving onto Gary the zombie man with a brain and giving us both views from the human side and the zombie side. I liked how the book explained how Gary was the way he was and how he pretty much preserved his brain so that he would become a zombie but still be able to think and function like a human. I continued to read onto the next part of the books. It started to get really descriptive. When they were talking about how after Gary got shot in the head and then it continued to describe how he stuck his fingers into his head and felt the bullet and then went back in and pulled the bullet out of his head. It was really gross and really descriptive but still kind of cool that it was described. Into the second part more it starts to get really awesome after Gary sucks the "life" out of the zombies and he goes out into the city and becomes a sort of a Zombie leader. Then when he runs into two humans that whole scene was pretty awesome when he lets that one go and then he is attacked by a pack of zombies. After the first human is killed Gary like just EATS the other human and the whole thing is just really crazy. I really like this book i can't wait to finish it.

Why are Zombie Movies so popular?

I think that zombie movies are so popular because I feel like giving the illusion that it is possible to come back to "life" is something that people really enjoy watching. The fact that you pretty much can't kill a zombie unless you go for the head is kind of a scary thing too. I think people really like the suspense that comes along with zombie films and the chase that happens in every zombie movie where the humans get locked in a building of some sort and the zombies always somehow find their way in. Zombie movies are also very gory I think thats another reason why people like them. I think people like the fact that they can hurt something and it's okay. Also I think it has a lot to do with getting eaten by the undead or getting bitten by a zombie and turning into one is something that attracts an audience.
